Montego Bay, Jamaica

Boonoonoonoos! I learned this was a term of endearment used to express love in Jamaica. Jamaica is beautiful but honestly, if I was to go back, I would probably visit another city. Don't get me wrong, Montego Bay is beautiful but if you stay in a resort you have to make a lot of effort to find excursions away from the tourist scene. There wasn't much to do on the Montego Bay Strip where we stayed beside bars and restaurants. I am huge on soaking up culture when I travel. I don't want to sit on beaches all day or sit in the resort, I want to know what makes Jamaica.. well Jamaica. I went with a group of friends and we stayed at Deja Resort and it was pretty affordable. The only issue I had was the way they cleaned their rooms. I noticed they weren't changing sheets but were just making the bed and doing minimal to sweep the floors. I did voice my concerns to their staff and I wish I did it earlier because they didn't do much to help when they realized it was towards the end of our stay. Not to bash the resort but it was a busy time so I will give them the benefit of the doubt and say they aren't usually like that. The resort has an all you can eat buffet for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They also have an open bar that is open throughout the day. They mainly serve rums and cheap vodkas but the drinks do get the job done. The resort also does have a department where you can book excursions so you can book excursions with them. The resort also provided us with wrist bands they gave us access to the beach which was right across the street. If I am not mistaken, most resorts on the strip provided their guests with one. If you do not have a wristband, you are required to pay an entry fee to visit the beach. We also spent one day in Negril which was beautiful but again another tourist area. I would highly recommend booking all excursions when booking your trip. Excursions sell out very quickly, especially during tourist season. If I ever go again I think I will visit Kingston.
PS: If you are a marijuana smoker, they literally sell it on the streets like its candy. It is illegal though so be careful.
